Coding Together: Apps for iPhone and iPad
“The first iTunes U course that is getting this new social layer is, of course, the uber-popular Stanford class on iOS development. Seems like a natural fit. Registration for the course just opened a few minutes ago and will stay open until July 6th. So if you’re itching to learn about cutting-edge technology while using cutting-edge technology, this is for you. The course runs from June 25 to August 27. If you’re on the fence, there’s an extra carrot to register: the first 1,000 students to register will be able to have the apps they develop evaluated for being given a prime spot on Stanford’s iTunes U website.”
'Hacker School' Is Creating a New Generation of Female Programmers
“Only two in 10 computer programmers are women but if the response to Etsy’s partnership with New York City-based Hacker School is any indication, male domination of the industry could soon be on its last legs. In April the DIY-oriented site announced that it was teaming up with the school to offer $5,000 scholarships to 20 women to attend a three-month-long summer program and learn coding through projects. Exceeding all expectations, 661 women applied to the program and 23—three more than the original goal—were admitted.”
Coding Scholarships for Women
“Etsy may be better known for knit products than coded ones, but the company just announced that it’s teaming up with Hacker School, a three-month coding program in New York City, to give out scholarships to women who want to become better programmers. The tech world has long been a boys’ club—not even one in five software developers are women—and the idea is to take a stab at evening out the gender inequality a bit.”
